Elves and Dwarves

Elves

“When a heavy mist floats across the bog, it is said that the elven girls dance.”

Danish sagn.

Elves are most common in Danish lore, though they do occur in Norwegian and Swedish lore too. These creatures were often connected to the forest, but also to bogs in the Danish tradition.

Elves originated in Norse Mythology and survived the change into Christianity, though they became decidedly more evil than the ethereal creatures they had been before. Though they seemed to mostly merge into the tales of the hulder, a seductive forest warden, they do occur with their own distinctive behaviors like dressing in white flowing garments, singing and dancing, often in circles, and luring unsuspecting humans to their deaths.
